The place Siquijor here in the Philippines has long been associated with mysticism and sorcery although am not too familiar how that reputation came about. You typically hear stories about witches and the like but if you are looking for a “not-so-commercial” place to visit, you may want to check Siquijor out.

Coco Beach Island Resort is located in Sabang, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro. There are several types of rooms to choose from (standard, deluxe, suite). These are native huts with no airconditioning so you can enjoy the natural coolness of the place. When booking or reserving, make sure to inquire which rooms have a seaview and which don’t have one — if you are particular about having a seaview. A seaview can be very relaxing as I have found out!

The last time I was in Puerto Galera in Mindoro was years ago — even way before I got married. So that long ago. I don’t remember what the name of the particular beach was but it was lined with several small resorts, located right beside each other.

Recently, have had friends and relatives take trips to the Ilocos Region. All are one in saying that it is a nice place to visit — although all say that the trip can be pretty tiring. Ilocos is an 8-9 hour drive from Manila although you also have the option of flying to Laoag from Manila. The flight takes about 45 minutes and with the reduced airfares courtesy of both Cebu Pacific and PAL, flying may be a good option now.

Yet another resort in Palawan is the Dos Palmas Resort. This is located in Arreceffi Island, Honda Bay, Palawan. To get there, visitors must take a 1 hour 15 minute flight to Puerto Princesa, take a 25 minute van or bus ride to the Sta. Lourdes Wharf, and after that, take a boat ride to the resort.
